As to the point of recouping the money spent on A.I, I believe that's what the looting of the covid and post-covid years is all about. They are pillaging now, and securing their place for the future, when the greatest commodity will be control.
Most of us won't be around for that, and even some who believe they're in the 'inner circle' will find themselves on the outside.
The few will own all, and control those who are needed to power ( and serve ) what is left. Do they succeed? I don't think so. But it's going to get a lot uglier before we can come out on the other side.
The bottom line is, is that those who desire this system need to go, for humanity to have a chance. They will never be reformed, as they see themselves as gods, and the rest of us as useless eaters to be disposed of and used as needed.

Whether the genome project as represented by Larry Ellison, or rather it's bunkum in silico creativity, as long as people believe it, it provides astronomical behavioral leverage.
